Liat Amar Arran
Jewish Agency Representative & Director of Israel Centre South Africa

Liat is an organizational and social Psychologist (PhD). Her professional background is coming from directing and facilitating different social's organizations, processes and projects. Liat is also a Professor for last 16 years (was recognized) at different academic institutions (Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Sapir college etc..)

Between 2016-2018 Liat had a role in assisting a process as a group facilitator of the task force of "living together" organization, dealing with the Israeli society.

Between 2012-2016 Liat has served as the CEO and Professional Director at the "Hetz Shikum at the community", a company of mental illness rehabilitation.

She also served as a mentor in the Rothschild Ambassadors organization, as well as a research consultant. In the past, Liat has served as a lecturer and head of research at several academic and non-academic institutions and worked as part of the organizational development team at Intel.

Liat’s professional experience includes roles at the School for Overseas Students at the Hebrew University, ISEF, in Jewish-Arab dialogue, at the Brandeis Bardin Institute, and as an emissary to the FSU, public activist, and a volunteer at the mother-to-mother program.

In addition, Liat was a co-founder of the secular-religious residential community Eliav, in the Lachish regional council.

Debbie Hurwitz
Executive Administrator and PA to the Israel Centre Director

Debbie is the Executive Administrator and PA to the Israel Centre Director.

She has worked at the Israel Centre since 2007 and is passionate about Israel. For any queries concerning The Israel Centre and specifically booking a one-on-one appointment with an Aliyah Shaliach, Debbie is your girl!

She is the proud mother of three awesome children, and a Bobba to 8 grandchildren.

Sue Resnick
Head of the Aliyah Department

Sue is Head of the Aliyah Department for the Israel centre and has been passionately doing her job since 2008.

She opens files for olim, makes sure that all the required documentation for making Aliyah is in their files, does the interviewing for the file, and once their file is approved, arranges oleh visas, books flights and makes sure that the olim understand the procedures to be followed on arriving in Israel.

Livnat Katz
Head of Marketing

Livnat was born in Israel and moved to South Africa in 1991. She is in fluent in Hebrew and English.

Livnat has been working at the Israel centre since the beginning of 2015.

She is the head of the marketing department with a background in Public relations. Livnat is married and has 3 wonderful kids.

Tanya Izaki
Israel Programs and Masa Coordinator

Tanya is the Israel Programs Co-ordinator and Masa representative at The Israel Centre.

She has been involved with the organization since 2009, co-ordinating projects such as Israel Encounter Tour, the Israel Quiz, MASA & Higher Education Expo as well as dealing with volunteer programs, internships and gap year programs in Israel through MASA and the Jewish Agency.

She is very patient and caring and always willing to assist anyone who wants to experience Israel. Tanya is married and a mother of 3 children.

Taryn Gingell
Coordinator Partnership2Gether South Africa

Taryn has been with the Israel Centre since April 2014.

Her work involves strengthening bonds between Israelis living in the Beit Shemesh - Mateh Yehuda region and Jews living in South Africa.

Her calm disposition allows for the busy task of organising projects that build meaningful relationships and people to people connections in these regions.

She is married and has 3 children, 2 girls and a boy.

Miriam Haver
Bnei Akiva Shlicha

Miriam is currently on Shlichut for the Jewish Agency & World Bnei Akiva at Johannesburg, South Africa. Miriam did two years of national service, working with new Olim and youth from all around the world. Prior to coming on Shlichut Miriam worked as the Olim cultural coordinator of Gush Etzion. Miriam was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Efrat, a small town not far from Jerusalem.

She is a graduate of Efrata College and holds a B.Ed in the field of History & Informal education. Miriam has come to Johannesburg to serve as Shlicha of Bnei Akiva and she looks forward to bringing Israel to the youth movement and the schools. She hopes to "bring to life" Israeli culture & history for the Jewish community.



Naama Karni
The Jewish Agency & Bnei Akiva Shlicha

Naama is currently on Shlichut for the Jewish Agency and Bnei Akiva Johannesburg. Naama has served National Service as a youth movement coordinator and she is a graduate of BA in Social Work from Bar Ilan University.

As part of her Shlichut, Naama will teach in Yeshiva College and King David schools. Naama looks forward bringing Israel to the student’s lives, teach them new interesting things, and also to learn from them about their own lives in South Africa.



Adi Sperber
Shinshiniot Shlicha

My name is Adi Sperber. I live in Bet Shemesh. I learned in Noah high school. My major was biology.

My hobbies are playing drums, hiking, swimming and being with friends.

I hope I'll be able to represent Israel in the best way and to be involved as much as possible with the community.



Merav Barel
Shinshiniot Shlicha

My name is Merav Barel. I live in Jerusalem in a neighborhood called Pisgat Ze'ev. I went to an art achool in Jerusalem and graduated in the field of music. In addition, I learnt proffesional singing at the conservatory of Jerusalem.

I was involved in some youth movement like Bnei Akiva and Krembo Wings.

I love singing, reading, meeting with my friends and traveling. Im looking forward bringing myself and israel into the community and make a difference.



Danny Adeno Abebe
Habonim Shaiach

Abebe was born in Ethiopia and made Aliyah to Israel in 84 (in operation moses) Vast experience in Journalism in the Government and Media sector. Specializing in social issues, Aliyah, Jewish communities in Israel and abroad.

Extensive educational and social involvement, track record as Youth Instructor, involved and pro-active initiation of educational and youth empowerment projects. High social and community awareness and commitment, performance in dynamic and multi-cultural environments, striving to bring people together, and instill values of tolerance, social commitments, personal excellence, persistence and dedication.

Forming excellent relationship with all stakeholders, goals oriented, leader, team player.

Since July 2017 serves as an education adviser to the Habonim Dror youth movement and consultant to the professional staff & W.Z.O Johannesburg Shaliach.
