MASA Evening 4

On Tuesday night the 6th of March there was an information evening hosted by Masa at Beyachad for parents and young adults.

With approximately 50 people in attendance the event was aimed at parents and young adults in or post Matric. Masa is an umbrella organisation that enables Jewish young adults to explore Israel through gap years, volunteering, internships or universities. There is also the option of structuring an individualised programme.

The motto of Masa is “Live it like a local”. This is seen in every programme under Masa. Despite offering such a wide range of opportunities and experiences there are four core elements in all of them. Learning Hebrew, creating a network, touring the land of Israel and being immersed into the culture.

Aviad Sela, Head of the Israel Agency introduced the Masa umbrella organisation. The evening was organised and presented by the Masa representative to South Africa, Tanya Izaki. There were multiple options showcased at the event. There were also representatives from some of the different options. Simon Cohen from Aardvark briefly explained about their gap year programme and presented a video with testimonials from two South African participants from 2017. Hebrew University had their representative, Carmel Krawitz and a testimonial from an alumni about her experience from her university opportunity through Masa. Stephanie Miller from IDC represented the various options at the university and two current students shared positive reports about their experiences on and off campus.
