family story 2018 1

Jewish Day School Grade 7's learnt about their Jewish heritage.

The Grade 7 students of King David Victory Park Primary School, Yeshiva College Girls’ High School and Torah Academy Girls’ High School recently embarked on an exciting journey in exploring their family's Jewish roots as part of the My Family Story projectThis was in collaboration with Partnership2gether and the Israel Centre South Africa.  My Family Story is a global educational programme sponsored by Beith Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People. The programme gives Jewish youth, the opportunity to express their ideas through creativity and artistic skills based on their family roots, historical memory and Jewish family values.

Art Exhibitions were held at all three schools to showcase the magnificent works of art that were produced by the children.  Aviad Sela, Director of the Israel Centre SA, Courtneigh Bernstein and Kim Nates from the Holocaust Musuem, had an incredibly difficult task judging the magnificent artworks.  Two winners were selected at each participating school and they were:

King David Victory Park Primary School: Kim Noriskin and Cayla Dembo

Torah Academy: Sara Ress and Sarah Levy

Yeshiva College: Liora Freeman and Avigal Rogoff

Their projects will now be sent to the Beit Hatfutsot Museum and entered into an international competition together with hundreds of other projects from around the world.
